ERIE, PA (February 12, 2026) — Infinite Erie applauded Governor Shapiro and his team for taking on the persistent challenge of affordable housing and issued the following statement following the release of the Housing Action Plan 2026. The Housing Action Plan 2026, outlines a new strategy, including $1 billion of proposed funding and the creation of a new Deputy Secretary of Housing position.

“This plan and proposed $1 billion in critical infrastructure funding is a positive step forward for Pennsylvania, and a real opportunity for Erie to compete,” said Kim Thomas, Executive Director, Infinite Erie. “Infinite Erie’s Housing Accelerator Plan, which will be released next week, positions Erie well as we take on a persistent housing crisis and work toward ending street homelessness in Erie.

“We have been convening leaders for more than a year and are ready to make significant progress toward our shared priority – safe, affordable, quality housing that meets Erie’s needs. Funding at the state level combined with an unprecedented level of collaboration is critical to accomplishing these goals in Erie. We encourage legislative support for new funding to help advance our housing goals, as outlined in the 2026 Playbook.”

Infinite Erie leads the Erie Housing Accelerator, a convening of civic, business and community leaders.

The stated Playbook goals include:

  • Goal 1: Supportive Housing
  • Goal: Build 50 units of permanent supportive housing to address chronic homelessness
  • Goal 2: Affordable Housing
  • Goal: 100 new units of affordable housing in core Erie neighborhoods, with 25 units dedicated to first-time minority homeowners
  • Goal 3: Workforce Housing
  • Goal: 100 new units of workforce housing to bring Erie’s workforce to core neighborhoods

The Infinite Erie Housing Accelerator Report is scheduled to be released next week.
